BRIGHT-4 Trial — Bivalirudin vs Heparin by BMI
Post-hoc analysis of leech-derived anticoagulant bivalirudin in acute MI patients by body mass index
Resumen
Post-hoc analysis of the BRIGHT-4 randomized trial examining bivalirudin (a synthetic analog of leech-derived hirudin) versus heparin in patients with acute myocardial infarction, stratified by body mass index. Demonstrated consistent benefit of bivalirudin across BMI categories.
Por qué esto importa para la hirudoterapia
Bivalirudin is the most commercially successful drug derived from leech pharmacology. This contemporary large-scale trial analysis validates the continued clinical relevance of hirudin-inspired anticoagulants and represents the translational endpoint of leech compound research.
